Have you ever thought about what this is connecting computers and networks to each other? Network cable, in conjunction with the hardware (network switches, hubs, demarcation equipment) is responsible for computers being able to connect and transfer data across intranets (internal networks) and over the internet. The network cabling of today is utilized to serve a variety of other functions besides computer networking. It is used to transport video for security camera systems, as additionally, video for the cable television system and for AV (Audio/Visual) devices. It is also used to control cables in Building Maintenance Systems and Access Control Systems. There are many different kinds of cables that are used for this purpose, such as unshielded twist, shielded pair fiber optic and coaxial. In certain cases, just one type of cable can be used for a network, while in other cases diverse types are employed. Wireless networks are becoming increasingly fashionable, but it is important to remember that it is still necessary to connect network cables for your wireless system. There are two features that make network cabling more effective than wireless networks as it is far more secure and reliable.

This is the kind of cable that is utilized for many Ethernet networks. There are four pairs of wires inside the cable. The cable is protected by a tough plastic separator to keep each pair of wires separated from the length of the cable. Every pair of cables are turned in a way that there will be no interference from other devices on the same network. The wires are also twisted in different ways so that they don't cause interference between the pairs. If you are in an area where there's a significant amount Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), like a mechanical space, you may choose to go with a shielded pair and have an outer shielding to provide an extra layer of protection against EMI. Categories 5e, 6A, and 7 are all the common selections today. Twisted Pair cable is limited to 295' in horizontal runs. Twisted pair cable is utilized to connect a variety of devices. Standard station cabling for computers as well as VOIP phones wireless access point, access control, network cameras or building monitoring systems are only the most common. This is one of the most reliable types of cables. When they are in use, network failures are less frequent than the other cables used.

Fiber optic cable is usually used for backbone cables, but it is increasingly being used in the form of station cable (think of FIOS). By backbone cable I mean the cable connects Telecommunication Rooms within a space to each other. Fiber optic cables are incredibly capacity to transmit broadband which allows it carry huge amounts of information as super fast speeds. Fiber optic cables can travel over huge distances(hundreds of meters) unlike copper cable. Since they work hard and information travels such distances, there are numerous layers of protective coating on Fiber optic cables. They transmit light as opposed to electrical current. Fiber optic cables use less power than high speed copper. Fibre optic cable can be a good choice for reliable and high speed communications.

The cable paths should stay away from electrical fixtures as well as any other source of EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference). Keep cable paths in accessible places on the ceiling for future cable runs and ease of maintenance. All paths should be run above corridors or hallways. cables enter individual rooms on wide 90 degree turns. Install a firestop sleeves or putty in all areas of the wall. Be cautious when pulling cables in order not to over-bending them beyond the bend radius. This can result in a failure during conducting tests. Don't tie cables to overhead hangers, sprinkler pipes or ceiling hangers. They need to be tied at five feet at a minimum on horizontal runs, and even greater on vertical ones. J-hook supports need to be attached onto the concrete deck that is above. Use velcro wraps for every 5' to 10' after you've finished running cable , to provide your cable bundles with a great looking finish.
